Welcome to the Writing Centre!

The Academic Writing Centre is open for all students and staff at UiO who wish to work on and develop their writing. At the Writing Centre you can meet with a writing mentor at any stage of the writing process. You might come to brainstorm and discuss ideas for an assignment, talk about a draft you are working on, or to ask any questions you might have about the writing process.

At the Writing Centre we are committed to supporting your development as a writer. Our goal is not to tell you what to do or how to write, but instead to strengthen your understanding of writing and how you can further develop the texts you are working with. We do this through dialogue, and also by using a variety of writing techniques and writing tools from our field of work.

The Writing Centre offers one-on-one consultations across disciplines, at all academic levels. The starting point is in each case what you are working on, and the consultation is built around your concerns and ideas as long as they are within the scope of what we offer. Our Writing mentors

The writing mentors are skilled and highly motivated students. They come from various disciplines and are trained in writing pedagogy and consultation. Some of our writing mentors are native English speakers.

The centre is led by Dr Ingerid S. Straume and Dr Cathinka Dahl Hambro. They are both experienced researchers, university lecturers and writers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I / where do I send my working draft for an appointment?

You can send the working draft in an e-mail to skrivesenter@ub.uio.no before the appointment.
You are welcome to write which part of the text is most relevant or that you would like to focus on in the consultation if you did not specify this when booking the appointment.

Do I need to have a booking to have a consultation?

No, you do not always need to book an appointment. We offer drop-in help, both at the Writing Centre and digitally with our online service. As long as we have capacity, we have drop-in services during our opening hours.
