Welcome to this new MA course about English classroom observation!

The MA course gives you insight into quality teaching in English as a school subject in Norway. This term, we are going to base the course on video recorded English lessons at seven different lower secondary schools, which are part of the LISE project. If you find yourselves interested in doing research related to LISE, you will be given the opportunity to write your MA thesis based on data from this project. The main aim is to learn how to identify quality English teaching in lower secondary classrooms in Norway.

We are going to meet up for seven seminars, each lasting for four hours (see schedule). During these seminars, we will discuss three main topics: (1) Languages in the English L2 classroom, (2) Reading strategy use and instruction in English, and (3) Feedback in the English classroom. In addition, we offer voluntary transcription workshops, which will give you a head start towards the obligatory activities in this course, and also in the methods course you follow this term (DIFO4001), and your MA thesis (EDID4009).
